Feed the Streets Ministry

What is it?

Feed the Streets is a volunteer-run program to feed Vernon’s street population. Food and water is distributed at convenient pick-up locations (known as Blessing Boxes) through-out Vernon. In addition to food being delivered, the street population is offered some basic toiletry and personal care items, including socks, deodorant, soap, hand sanitizer, undergarments, toilet paper, oral hygiene items, and cold weather items (hats, gloves, hand warmers, and emergency foil blankets).

Why?

What started as a weekend evening meal service for Vernon’s street population, developed into a 7-day a week service during the COVID-19 crisis. The Feed the Streets ministry volunteers are delivering food free of charge, but funds are needed to help this service continue.

Our vision at East Hill Community Church includes being sent by Jesus into our neighborhoods where we live, work and play to embody His presence. We serve the city of Vernon by loving and giving ourselves to our neighbours and the wider community as we seek God’s justice and peace in every area of life.

In Matthew 25:40, Jesus says “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” When face-to-face with our brothers and sisters who are in need, sick, marginalized, widowed, or whatever the situation may be – we see an opportunity to love, share, and serve as if we were serving Jesus himself.

How to help?

Funds are needed to sustain this volunteer-based ministry in purchasing the essentials, including food and toiletries. All donations are tax-receiptable.
