Feed the Streets Ministry

What is it?

A delivered evening meal service to Vernon’s street population. Hot meals are prepared daily, and distributed at convenient pick-up locations through-out Vernon. In addition to hot meals being served, the street population is offered some basic toiletry and personal care items, including socks, deodorant, soap, hand sanitizer, undergarments, toilet paper, oral hygiene items, and cold weather items (hats, gloves, hand warmers, and emergency foil blankets).

What started as a weekend evening meal service for Vernon’s street population, has developed into a 7-day a week service during the COVID-19 crisis. With the necessary closure of some of the charitable organizations in the community, including the Upper Room Mission (Vernon’s only daily soup kitchen), this ministry has had to expand its services. The Feed the Streets ministry volunteers are cooking and delivering meals free of charge, but funds are needed to help this service continue.

Our vision at East Hill Community Church includes being sent by Jesus into our neighborhoods where we live, work and play to embody His presence. We serve the city of Vernon by loving and giving ourselves to our neighbours and the wider community as we seek God’s justice and peace in every area of life.

In Matthew 25:40, Jesus says “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” When face-to-face with our brothers and sisters who are in need, sick, marginalized, widowed, or whatever the situation may be – we see an opportunity to love, share, and serve as if we were serving Jesus himself.

How to help?
